Toyota Motor has announced that it will not broadcast television advertisements related to the Tokyo Olympics, and that Toyota Motor President Akio Toyoda will not attend the opening ceremony of the tournament on July 23.
Toyota Chief Communications Manager Nagata Jun said at a press conference that they will not broadcast the TV commercial of the company for the Tokyo Games, in which some athletes will compete in the tournament.
Noting that the tournament has evolved into a more difficult event to gain support for “various reasons”, Nagata said that Toyota Motor Corp. President Akio Toyoda also stated that he will not attend the opening ceremony of the tournament at the National Stadium on Friday.
“We fully support the athletes and contribute to the games through the supply of vehicles and some other means,” Nagata said. said.
The Japanese company will also cancel the events where its vehicles and technologies will be promoted within the scope of the tournament.
According to the Kyodo agency, the Japanese firm will supply 3,340 vehicles, more than 90 percent with fuel cells and electric motors.
Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee announced that it will not accept spectators from outside Japan in March 2020, and from within Japan the previous week, for the Olympics, which will start on July 23.
