The Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced its production and export volumes and market data for the January-February period. During the first two months of the year, total automotive production decreased by 6.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, amounting to 222,264 units, while automobile production decreased by 16 percent to 136,882 units. With the production of tractors, the total production was 231 thousand 578 units. Looking at the data on a monthly basis, the production of the automotive industry in February decreased by 9.3 percent to 116 thousand 88 units compared to the same month of the previous year, while automobile production decreased by 22.4 percent to 68 thousand 105 units in the same period. In the January-February period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 68 percent. On the basis of vehicle group, capacity utilization rates were 68 percent in light vehicles (automobile + light commercial vehicle), 50 percent in heavy commercial vehicles and 75 percent in tractors.
Commercial vehicle production increased by 14 percent

In the January-February period, commercial vehicle production increased by 14 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. During this period, production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 55 percent, while the production in the light commercial vehicle group increased by 12 percent. In the same period, the production of commercial vehicles carrying freight and passengers was 85,382 units, and the production of tractors was 9,314. Looking at the market, in the January-February period, compared to the same period of the previous year, the commercial vehicle market increased by 53 percent, the light commercial vehicle market by 51 percent and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 61 percent. Considering the base effect, the commercial vehicle market for the January-February period was 6 percent above 2017.

The increase in the domestic market continued

In the January-February period, the total market increased by 38 percent compared to the previous year and reached 106 thousand 532 units. In this period, the automobile market increased by 34 percent and became 80 thousand 107 units. Considering the averages of the last 10 years, the total market increased by 30 percent in the January-February period, while the automobile market increased by 39 percent, the light commercial vehicle market by 8 percent and the heavy commercial vehicle market by 4 percent. During this period, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 38 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 55 percent.

Exports decreased by 14 percent in January-February

In the period covering the first two months of the year, automotive exports decreased by 14 percent on a unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year and amounted to 165 thousand 476 units. Automobile exports decreased by 27 percent to 98 thousand 433 units. In the same period, exports of tractors decreased by 13 percent and recorded as 2 thousand 315 units. Turkey Exporters Assembly (T ยท M), according to the automotive industry exports in January-February were maintained its first rank with 17 percent taken from the total export share.

Total exports reached $ 4.9 billion

In the January-February period, compared to the same period of the previous year, total automotive exports decreased by 3 percent in dollar terms and 12 percent in Euro terms. During this period, total automotive exports were $ 4.9 billion, while automobile exports decreased by 22 percent to $ 1.6 billion. Automobile exports in euro terms decreased by 29 percent to 1.4 billion Euros. In the January-February period, the main industry exports decreased by 9 percent on a dollar basis, while the exports of the supply industry increased by 8 percent.
