Automotive Industry Association (OSD) announced the data for the January-April period. During this period, automotive production increased by 28 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 415 thousand 187 units, while automobile production increased by 18 percent to 288 thousand 211 units.

The base effect, which occurred due to the fact that the automotive industry stopped its production within the scope of the pandemic measures last year, was reflected in the increase rates of the January-April period of 2021. Accordingly, in the first four months of the year, total automotive production increased by 28 percent compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 415 thousand 187 units, while automobile production increased by 18 percent to 288 thousand 211 units. Together with the tractor production, the total production was 470 thousand 859 units. During this period, the capacity utilization rate of the automotive industry was 69 percent. On the basis of vehicle group, capacity utilization rates were 69 percent in light vehicles (automobile + light commercial vehicle), 62 percent in heavy commercial vehicles and 79 percent in tractors.
The rise in commercial vehicle production

In the January-April period, commercial vehicle production increased by 52 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. During this period, production in the heavy commercial vehicle group increased by 89 percent, while the production in the light commercial vehicle group increased by 49 percent. During this period, total commercial vehicle production was 162 thousand 976 units. Looking at the market, in the January-April period, compared to the same period of the previous year, the commercial vehicle market increased by 93 percent, the light commercial vehicle market increased by 88 percent and the heavy commercial vehicle market increased by 124 percent. Although there was an increase in the heavy commercial vehicle group compared to the previous year, considering the base effect, the truck market shrank by 33 percent, the bus market by 46 percent and the midibus market by 75 percent compared to 2015.

The market is above 10-year averages

In the January-April period, the total market increased by 74 percent compared to the previous year and reached 271 thousand 173 units. In this period, the automobile market increased by 69 percent and became 204 thousand 839 units. Considering the averages of the last 10 years, the total market increased by 23 percent, the automobile market by 30 percent, the light commercial vehicle market by 6 percent, the truck market by 11 percent, while the bus market decreased by 33 percent and the midibus market by 55 percent in the January-April period of 2021. During this period, the share of domestic vehicles in automobile sales was 39 percent, while the share of domestic vehicles in the light commercial vehicle market was 54 percent.

18 percent increase in terms of number

In the first four months of the year, automotive exports increased by 18 percent on a unit basis compared to the same period of the previous year and reached 339,197 units. Automobile exports increased by 6 percent and reached 212 thousand 56 units. In the same period, exports of tractors increased by 110 percent and recorded 8 thousand 469 units. According to the data of the Turkish Exporters Assembly (TI ยท M), automotive industry exports remained in the first place with a share of 15 percent in total exports in the January-April period. In the January-April period, compared to the same period of the previous year, total automotive exports increased 34 percent in dollar terms and 23 percent in euro terms. During this period, total automotive exports were 10.3 billion dollars, while automobile exports increased by 18 percent to 3.5 billion dollars. Automobile exports in Euro terms increased by 8 percent to 2.9 billion Euros. In the January-April period, the main industry exports increased by 30 percent on a dollar basis, while the supply industry exports increased by 40 percent.
