Subaru Corporation announced that the brand’s all-new global all-electric SUV will be called the “Solterra” and is scheduled to go on sale in 2022. “Solterra”, Subaru’s fully electric C-segment SUV vehicle, will be the first Subaru vehicle to be designed on the e-Subaru Global Platform designed specifically for Battery Powered Electric Vehicles (BEVs).
Developed jointly by Subaru and Toyota, the e-Subaru Global platform combines multiple modules and components such as the front, center and rear of a vehicle, enabling the efficient launch of various vehicle types. While the two companies combine their experience and know-how to create a completely new platform, Subaru is aiming to bring the passive safety and vehicle stability that it has always pursued on this special BEV (Battery Powered Electric Vehicle) platform. Subaru is a combination of the words “Sol” and “Terra”, which are Latin words meaning “Earth.” To fulfill its commitment to offer its go-anywhere capabilities in a fully electric vehicle, the car will join the brand’s SUV series, ASCENT, OUTBACK, FORESTER and XV.It will be available in the markets of Japan, the United States, Canada, Europe and China by mid-2022.
